Overview

At just six years old, Gow faces challenges that no child should ever have to endure. Living with a significant mental disability, he requires constant care, supervision, and medical support that his family simply cannot afford.

Instead of enjoying the carefree childhood every young boy deserves, Gow’s life is shaped by poverty, illness, and uncertainty. His grandmother, despite her love and devotion, struggles every day to keep him safe while trying to provide even the most basic necessities. Every meal, every medical appointment, and every day without the medication he urgently needs is another reminder of how difficult life has become.

Family

Gow is cared for by his grandmother after both of his parents became unable to raise him. His mother works as a prostitute, while his father is serving a prison sentence for drug-related offences.

His grandmother has become Gow’s full-time caregiver despite having very limited financial resources. She spends nearly every hour caring for him, leaving little opportunity to earn an income. The family survives in extreme poverty, often struggling to buy enough food, clothing, and household essentials.

Because they cannot afford the specialist medical care and medication recommended for Gow’s condition, his grandmother is sometimes forced to use physical restraints during periods of severe behavioural distress to prevent him from seriously harming himself or others. It is a heartbreaking decision made out of necessity rather than choice, and one that reflects the desperate circumstances in which they live.

Every day she worries about how she will feed her grandson, pay for medicine, and continue caring for him as they both grow older.

Hobbies & Dreams

Despite his disability, Gow enjoys simple moments of happiness. He smiles when people show him kindness, enjoys being outdoors, and finds comfort in familiar faces and gentle routines.

Like every child, Gow deserves the opportunity to receive proper medical care, attend specialised education where appropriate, and develop to the best of his abilities. With the right support, he can experience a safer, healthier, and more fulfilling childhood.

His grandmother dreams of something many families take for granted—that one day Gow will receive the treatment he needs, sleep peacefully, laugh freely, and live without fear or unnecessary suffering.

Risks

Without ongoing support, Gow faces a number of serious risks, including:

  • Going without essential medication needed to manage his condition.
  • Injury to himself during episodes of severe behavioural distress.
  • Poor physical health caused by chronic poverty and inadequate nutrition.
  • Delayed development due to limited access to specialist care and therapy.
  • Social isolation resulting from his disability and family circumstances.
  • Emotional and physical exhaustion experienced by his elderly caregiver.
  • Continued dependence on emergency safety measures because professional treatment remains financially out of reach.

Access to healthcare, medication, nutrition, and specialist support could dramatically improve Gow’s quality of life while reducing the burden on his grandmother.

Healthy & Nutrious Food

Therapeutic food and targeted nutritional support to prevent malnutrition, which severely affects cognitive development and makes children easy targets for exploitation.

New Cothing & Shoes

Covering hidden school costs, including mandatory uniforms, sturdy shoes, and learning supplies, so children stay in the classroom instead of fields or factories.

How Your Support Can Change Gow’s Life

For Gow, sponsorship means far more than receiving financial assistance—it means giving a vulnerable little boy the opportunity to live with greater dignity, safety, and hope.

Your support can help provide nutritious meals, clothing, essential medication, medical appointments, specialist care, and practical assistance for the grandmother who has devoted her life to protecting him.

For a family living in extreme poverty, your generosity could mean the difference between surviving each day and finally beginning to look towards a brighter future. By sponsoring Gow, you are helping to give a little boy the care he desperately needs and showing his grandmother that she does not have to face this journey alone.

The poverty rate is 4.2% for people without a completed education, falling to 3.0% for those who finish school.

You could be Gow’s last chance.
