Overview
At just six years old, Khao Hom is growing up in one of Thailand’s poorest regions, where many families struggle every day to meet even their most basic needs. While most children her age are learning, playing, and dreaming about the future, Khao Hom’s childhood is overshadowed by the daily reality of poverty.
Simple things that many children take for granted—regular nutritious meals, clean clothes, school supplies, and access to healthcare—are often beyond her family’s reach. Despite these hardships, Khao Hom remains a bright, kind-hearted little girl who continues to smile and hope for a better tomorrow.
Family
Khao Hom comes from a family living in severe financial hardship. Every day is a struggle to provide enough food, pay household expenses, and ensure she has the essentials needed to grow up healthy and attend school.
The family’s limited income is stretched across basic living costs, leaving very little for nutritious food, clothing, education, or medical care. Even small unexpected expenses can place enormous pressure on the household, forcing difficult choices between one necessity and another.
Although her family works tirelessly, the reality of poverty means that life is often about survival rather than planning for the future.
Hobbies & Dreams
Khao Hom loves drawing colourful pictures, singing, and playing games with other children whenever she has the chance. She enjoys learning new things and is naturally curious about the world around her.
She dreams of becoming a teacher when she grows up. She wants to help children learn, encourage them to believe in themselves, and give them the opportunities she knows many children in poor communities never receive.
Like every child, her dreams are filled with hope, but they depend on having enough food to stay healthy, the opportunity to remain in school, and the support needed to continue learning.
With encouragement and the chance to receive an education, Khao Hom has every opportunity to build a future far brighter than her present circumstances.
